Activity Objective: To practice word recognition, and spelling of one’s own name.

Materials Needed:

1. Construction paper

2. Markers 

3. Scissors

Procedures/Strategies:

a. Cut a large piece of construction paper into a heart

b. Write each child’s name in large letters on the heart.

c. Draw lines between the letters in zig zags and swirls. 

d. Have children cut along the lines to practice fine motor skills. 

e. Then have them mix up the pieces and reassemble to puzzle in order to spell their name. 

f. They may glue the puzzle to another piece of construction paper, however this is optional.
