Colour Mixing with Light

Developmental Goal/Activity Objective: To learn more about the properties of light and how colours are produced.

Materials Needed:

1. 4 small flashlights

2. Red, blue, yellow, and green cellophane 

3. Tape

Procedures/Strategies:

a. Wrap the cellophane of the different colours around each flashlight and secure it with tape so that the cellophane covers the lightbulb of the flashlight. 

b. Make a corner of the room dark and turn on the flashlights. Cross the flashlight streams over one another to mix colours.

c. Have children discuss which colours combine to make other colours.
