I Love You Because Mother’s Day Flowers
Compass Enlightenment: This heartfelt craft encourages children to reflect on their relationships, express gratitude, and build emotional awareness. As they write and create each flower, they connect art with social-emotional learning while practicing meaningful self-expression.
Age: 5-10 OSC
Curriculum Area:
- Social and Emotional Development: Learning to interact with others, understand and manage emotions, and develop empathy and cooperation.
Development Goal:
- Emotional Intelligence: Activities that build self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation.
Activity Objective: To foster appreciation and empathy by creating a flower craft that expresses love and gratitude toward mothers or caregivers.
Materials Needed:
1. Paper
2. Scissors
3. Glue
4. Markers
5. Straws, craft sticks or pipe cleaners
Procedures/Strategies:
- Cut out semi-circles for petals and a full circle for the center of the flower.
- On the center, children write: “Mom, I love you because…”
- On each petal, they write specific reasons they love or appreciate their mom.
- Glue petals around the center to form the flower.
- Attach a straw, pipe cleaner, or craft stick to the back as the stem.
