Making Animal Tracks

Developmental Goal/Activity Objective: To practice creative art and gross motor skills.

Materials Needed:

1. Carboard 

2. Glue 

3. Ribbon

4. Paint

5. Paper 

6. Painter’s tape

Procedures/Strategies:

a. Create some animals tracks like the ones picture below by cutting pieces out of cardboard and gluing smaller pieces on in the shape of a track. The ones below are for a bear. Do your best to flip them in order to make a left and a right. 

b. Make two 1.5” long incisions with an X-Acto knife and thread a 2-3’ long ribbon through them so that they can be tied to children’s feet.

c. Roll out a large stretch of paper on the floor and tie the animal print “shoes” to feet. Let children walk up and down the paper after pressing the tracks in paint to make a trail of animal prints.

Guidance and Safety Considerations:

Prep for this activity should be done well in advance as it can take a little while and glue needs time to dry.
