Handprint Mitten Craft
Age: 1-3 IT
Curriculum Area: Art, Fine Motor Skills, Sensory Skills
Developmental Goal/Activity Objective: To practice fine motor and sensory skills through creative art.
Materials Needed:
1. Construction paper
2. White paint
3. Scissors
4. Single hole punch
5. Ribbon
Procedures/Strategies:
a. Have children paint their hand and press it on construction paper to create a handprint.
b. They can then cut around the handprint to make the shape of a mitten.
c. Hole punch the top of the mitten and run ribbon through it, tying in a loop to make it so the mitten can hang. (this step is optional)
d. Glue a piece of construction paper to the bottom to create a fur like detail on the mitten (you may want to use craft scissors to get the wavy effect).
